EPA Updates Lead Rules to Protect Children

Stronger lead regulations for the first time in 20 years.

This week, the Environmental Protection Agency announced new regulations that aim to protect children from dangerous levels of lead. Under this final rule, homes and childcare facilities that were built prior to 1978 have reduced clearance level amounts that may remain once lead has been removed from the structure.

“For too long, many children, especially those in low-income communities, have been exposed to unacceptable levels of lead,” said EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler. “This overdue regulation is yet another example of the Trump Administration’s commitment to reduce sources of lead exposure and to provide a healthier environment for our children.”

“Through my experience working as a pediatric neurosurgeon, I’ve seen firsthand the devastating impact lead exposure can have upon the health of children,” said HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson. “I applaud the EPA on their work to ensure healthy homes for all children and appreciate their partnership with HUD as we work together toward this common goal.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the EPA as they work to ensure a healthy environment for children.
  • For the HUD Department as they seek to provide safe housing.
  • For the president’s administration as actions to benefit children are considered and promoted.
